FAQs
Welcome to our FAQ page! At Reside Design Studio Inc., we want your experience to be smooth, inspiring, and informed. Below are some of the most common questions we receive. If you have more, don’t hesitate to reach out!

At Reside Design Studio, we provide comprehensive interior design services that go far beyond just selecting finishes or décor. Our work includes:
Space planning and layout optimization
Material and finish selections
Custom millwork and cabinetry design
Lighting plans and fixture selections
Detailed construction drawings for renovations and new builds
Coordination with contractors and trades
Full-service furnishing and styling
Whether you're updating a single room or planning a full-scale renovation, we create design packages that include professional construction drawings (floor plans, elevations, and detailed specifications) to ensure your project is executed smoothly and accurately. Our goal is to take the guesswork out of the process and bring clarity, creativity, and precision to your space.
-
This is one of the most common questions we get—and it’s a great one. While both interior designers and decorators help improve the look and feel of your space, their roles, training, and scope of work are quite different.
At Reside Design Studio Inc., we are formally trained interior designers. This means we don’t just focus on the decorative elements—we’re also involved in the planning and construction side of your project. We can design functional layouts, prepare detailed construction drawings, work within building codes, and collaborate directly with contractors and trades to bring your vision to life. Our work often includes custom millwork design, lighting plans, and full interior packages for renovations and new builds.
Interior decorators, on the other hand, typically focus on surface-level updates such as selecting paint colours, furniture, accessories, and other finishing touches. They do not usually get involved in structural changes, construction documents, or working with trades.
So if your project involves anything beyond styling—like renovating your kitchen, remodeling a bathroom, or designing a space from the ground up—you’ll want a qualified interior designer like Reside Design Studio to guide the process from start to finish.

The cost of working with Reside Design Studio Inc. depends on the scope, complexity, and size of your project. We offer a few flexible pricing models to suit different needs:
Hourly Design Services – Ideal for consultations, smaller projects, or clients who need guidance throughout a renovation but want to manage it themselves.
Flat-Fee Packages – Best for full-service projects such as kitchen renovations, bathroom remodels, new builds, or whole-home furnishing. These are customized based on the square footage and level of detail required.
Hybrid Pricing – In some cases, we combine a flat fee for the design phase with hourly billing for change orders, project coordination or implementation support.
Our fees reflect the value of personalized, professional design, including space planning, material selections, custom cabinetry design, construction drawings, furniture sourcing, and project oversight.
We always begin with an initial consultation, where we get to know your goals, style, and budget. From there, we’ll prepare a custom proposal that outlines our services, estimated hours or package price, and timeline—so there are no surprises.
Whether you’re investing in a full renovation or looking for expert input on a single space, we work hard to maximize your budget and deliver results that are both beautiful and functional.

Hiring an interior designer is an investment—but at Reside Design Studio Inc., we often help clients save money in the long run.
By guiding smart decisions, preventing costly mistakes, and optimizing your budget, we ensure your money is spent wisely. We also save you time by managing the design process and coordinating with trades—reducing delays and stress.
Plus, we have access to trade-only suppliers and exclusive pricing, giving you access to better quality at better value. And when it’s time to sell, a professionally designed home often has stronger resale appeal.
In short, we help you avoid costly missteps and get the most out of your investment.

At Reside Design Studio Inc., our approach is always client-focused. While we have a personal preference for modern, timeless, and functional designs, our main goal is to create a space that reflects your personality and lifestyle.
We don’t believe in imposing a style. Instead, we listen closely to your needs and preferences, and tailor every detail accordingly. Through collaboration, mood boards, and material samples, we make sure the final design feels uniquely yours—both beautiful and practical.
-
At Reside Design Studio Inc., your level of involvement is completely up to you. Some clients enjoy being hands-on throughout the process, while others prefer to leave the details to us. We keep you updated regularly and consult you at key points to make sure you’re happy with the progress. Our goal is to make the experience smooth and enjoyable, no matter how involved you want to be.
-
Project timelines can vary widely depending on the size and scope of your interior design needs. For example, a simple room refresh might take just a few weeks, while full home renovations or new builds can take several months from start to finish.
At Reside Design Studio Inc., we begin every project with a detailed timeline based on your goals, budget, and the complexity of the work. We coordinate closely with contractors, suppliers, and trades to keep things on track and communicate any updates or changes along the way.
We understand that timing is important, so we work to balance quality with efficiency—ensuring your project is completed as smoothly and quickly as possible without compromising on the design vision.
-
At Reside Design Studio Inc., we provide comprehensive interior design services, including space planning, material selection, and styling. While we do not perform construction work ourselves, we collaborate closely with a network of reputable contractors and trades throughout Langley and the Greater Vancouver area to ensure seamless project execution.
If you have an existing builder or contractor, we are happy to coordinate and work alongside them. For projects requiring additional expertise—such as architects or engineers—we can recommend qualified professionals and assist in managing their involvement.
Our commitment is to deliver a smooth, well-coordinated design process that minimizes your stress by expertly guiding you through the many moving parts of a successful new build or renovation.
-
At Reside Design Studio Inc., we guide you through every stage of the design process, from concept development to final selections. We provide clear timelines, regular updates, and ongoing communication to ensure you're informed and confident in every decision. You’ll receive design presentations, drawings, and material samples at key milestones for your review and approval.
While we collaborate closely with your contractor or builder, it’s important to note that we do not manage the construction process or trades. Construction scheduling, trade coordination, and site supervision fall under the contractor’s scope. Our role during this phase is to support the design intent—answering questions, clarifying details, and assisting with site-specific design decisions as needed.
We do not create or manage the overall project budget; that responsibility lies with your contractor or builder. However, throughout the design process, we follow the budget allowances provided by your contractor for all material and fixture selections. This ensures that our design choices align with the financial parameters of your construction contract and helps keep the overall project on track. This close collaboration helps bring your vision to life while respecting both the design goals and construction realities.
-
Our design process at Reside Design Studio Inc. is highly collaborative, and we make it a priority to involve you at every key stage—from concept development to final selections—so there are no surprises.
Before anything is finalized, we present detailed design concepts that include mood boards, layout plans, material and fixture options, and finish samples. You’ll have the opportunity to provide feedback and request changes during each phase of the process. This ensures the final design reflects your style, preferences, and functional needs.
If something doesn’t feel right to you, we welcome open and honest communication. We’ll refine the design as needed to ensure you’re confident and excited about the direction of your project. Our goal is to create a space you truly love—so revisions are a natural and expected part of the process.
We don’t move forward without your full approval, and we’re committed to making the process smooth, transparent, and enjoyable.
-
The initial consultation is the first step in working with Reside Design Studio Inc., and it's designed to help us get a clear understanding of your project and how we can support you. This meeting typically takes place in your home, at the project site, or virtually, depending on your needs and the stage of the project.
During the consultation, we’ll:
Discuss the scope of your project—whether it’s a renovation, furnishing project, or new build
Talk about your goals, design preferences, lifestyle needs, and vision for the space
Review your budget expectations and timeline
Walk through the space (if applicable) and take notes to assess its potential
Answer any questions you have about our process, services, or how we work with contractors and trades
We do not take measurements or begin design work at this stage. The consultation is a discovery session to determine if we’re the right fit and to clarify the next steps.
After the consultation, you’ll receive a custom design proposal outlining the scope of work, estimated fees, and a clear plan for how we’ll move forward.
-
Delays or unexpected challenges can happen in any renovation or design project—whether due to backordered materials, construction issues, or shifting timelines. At Reside Design Studio Inc., we take a proactive and solutions-focused approach to minimize disruption and keep your project moving forward.
While we do not manage the construction phase or oversee trades, we stay closely involved during implementation to ensure the design intent is carried through accurately. If a delay or issue arises, we work with your contractor or builder to troubleshoot and provide timely design adjustments or alternate solutions as needed.
For example, if a selected product becomes unavailable or delayed, we’ll quickly source comparable alternatives that maintain the integrity of the overall design and meet your budget and timeline constraints.
We also maintain regular communication with both you and your builder to ensure everyone stays informed and aligned. Our goal is to keep the process as smooth and stress-free as possible, even when the unexpected occurs.
